Delectable Steak & Sweet Mash Bowl: A Wholesome Delight

A nourishing and flavor-packed bowl featuring juicy marinated steak and creamy cinnamon-sweet potato mash, perfect for a wholesome, satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large sweet potatoes (about 2 lbs), peeled and cubed
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup milk (or dairy-free alternative)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 lb flank steak
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • Optional: 1/4 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • Optional: 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • Optional: 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans, toasted
  • Optional: 1 avocado, sliced

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine garlic, salt, pepper, rosemary, balsamic vinegar, and soy sauce. Pour over the steak in a shallow dish, cover, and marinate in the fridge for 30 minutes to 4 hours.
  2. Peel and cube sweet potatoes into 1-inch pieces.
  3. Boil sweet potatoes in a large pot until tender (15–20 minutes), then drain and return to the pot.
  4. Add butter, milk, and cinnamon. Mash until smooth and season to taste. Keep warm.
  5. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Pat steak dry, then cook for 4–5 minutes per side or until desired doneness. Let rest 5 minutes, then slice.
  6. Assemble bowls with sweet potato mash, steak slices, and any desired toppings: feta, parsley, nuts, and avocado.

Notes

Resting the steak before slicing keeps it juicy. Use a fork for a rustic mash or a mixer for a smooth finish. Don’t skip marinating—it makes a big difference in flavor.
