Baked Crunchy Hot Honey Chicken: A Flavorful Delight

A perfectly balanced dish of sweet and spicy baked chicken, featuring a crispy panko coating and a mouthwatering hot honey glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce
  • 1 ½ cups panko breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it with olive oil.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk and hot sauce. Add the chicken breasts and marinate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
  3. In a shallow dish, mix panko breadcrumbs, flour, garlic powder, smoked paprika, onion powder, salt, pepper, and optional cayenne pepper.
  4. Remove chicken from marinade and let excess drip off. Coat each piece in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing to adhere.
  5. Place coated chicken on baking sheet and drizzle or spray with olive oil.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes until chicken is cooked through and coating is crispy. Internal temperature should reach 165°F (75°C).
  7. While baking, prepare glaze by heating ½ cup honey with 2 tablespoons hot sauce in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring to combine.
  8. Brush baked chicken with hot honey glaze immediately after removing from oven. Garnish with parsley if desired and let rest before serving.

Notes

Use a wire rack on the baking sheet for extra crispiness. Avoid overcrowding the pan to ensure even cooking and crunch.
